You Can Easily Assign Days of the Week to the Dates in a Spreadsheet
Of all the features and capabilities modern workplace software offers, it is very possible that the spreadsheet tool offers the most… with relatively few people realizing what they have access to within it. There are many very smart inclusions that can make life much easier for those who know what they’re doing.
For example, if your data is formatted correctly, it is easy enough to identify which day of the week a given date falls on.
How to Autofill the Day of the Week in Your Spreadsheets
You’ve likely become at least familiar with the monotony of manually filling out a spreadsheet. Not only is it mind-numbingly boring, but it is also far too easy to make an error as you populate each and every cell with the data you need. This is increasingly true when you’re dealing with historical records that are apt to continue growing with time.
However, if you find yourself needing to populate a list of dates with the day of the week they fall on, there’s an easy way to accomplish this:
- Make sure you have a list of your dates prepared. They can be sequential or not, just as long as they are all in one column. For this example, we’ll assume the dates are listed in column A.
- Choose the column you want to use to list the day of the week. Here, we’ll assume you’re using column D. In cell D1, type in the following formula: =TEXT(A1,"dddd") This will give you the weekday that whatever date populates cell A1 was assigned.
- Press Enter. The cell should immediately convert to the appropriate day of the week.
- Click and drag the bottom-right corner of your formula cell down until all the cells with a corresponding date are covered.
It’s as simple as that!
